What measures should I take / steps should I be aware of to guarantee I get the cheapest home contents insurance? Should you avoid / do certain things? |

You can often get better deals on contents insurance if you buy it together with buildings insurance. Make sure that you research different providers so that you can compare quotes, and check the small print so that you know exactly what they are and aren't covering. There's no point getting cheap contents insurance that doesn't actually cover you when you need it! Check exactly how much cover you really need: how much are your contents really worth? If you pay for more cover than you need, you'll pay an unnecessarily high premium! |

Do you already have home building insurance? If not then you could save a bit by buying the two together. Tesco Finance offers 6 months free contents insurance if you insure your building with them. And even after that period is over they still offer good prices. |
