I need some advice on getting a reasonable quote for my new home insurance. Subsidence is unfortunately a risk in the area we're moving to, and I've heard horror stories of high premiums or straightforward refusals to insure! Does anyone have any advice / experience? |

It can be a minefield unfortunately, because subsidence is seen as one of the big risks to the insurer... Having said that, if you deal with an insurer who has knowledge of subsidence policies and take a few precautionary measures yourself, you may escape the worst! More Th>n offer home insurance that includes cover against fire, flood and subsidence for example. Make sure that you get a professional appraisal of the state of the house before you move in. Not only could a property with structural problems be dangerous, you may be paying more than you should for it! Once you're in and insured, make sure you check for cracks on a regular basis – of course, a crack isn't necessarily evidence of subsidence, but the sooner you spot the damage and report it, the lower the cost of repairs! |

Adrainflux.co.uk has Subsidence Risk Home insurance but I have never actually used them so I am not sure if their prices are crazy like what you mentioned. I am sure that if you do your research though you will be able to find one that is a little cheaper than the others, there is always one company willing to go lower than the others to get in the race!!! |
