Is there a big difference between home insurance & flat insurance? Or any difference at all?! I want to buy a flat and was wondering if it's cheaper to insure than a house?

There are differences between policies for a house or a flat, as policies differ between all types of buildings. The advantages of flat insurance are that security is often 'better' as new builds are built to insurance-friendly specifications. This means your door and window locks should be taken care of, and the communal areas / main entrance should be secured. Also, the risk of burglary is reduced if you're in a penthouse! The size of the property will also be smaller than a house (usually) and so the value of the contents cover is likely to be smaller too. All these factors will reduce your premiums.

Do you mean contents insurance or home insurance? Well either way it will be less as both are usually smaller and have less inside them. Plus it was a good point what the previous poster made, most flats nowadays have high-tech entry systems, some with video/tv security systems so I am sure this will lower your premium as you are less likely to be broken in to. But at the same time... I suppose the area will still affect the price, as always!!!
