Is there a big difference between home insurance & flat insurance? Or any difference at all?! I want to buy a flat and was wondering if it's cheaper to insure than a house? |

There are differences between policies for a house or a flat, as policies differ between all types of buildings. The advantages of flat insurance are that security is often 'better' as new builds are built to insurance-friendly specifications. This means your door and window locks should be taken care of, and the communal areas / main entrance should be secured. Also, the risk of burglary is reduced if you're in a penthouse! The size of the property will also be smaller than a house (usually) and so the value of the contents cover is likely to be smaller too. All these factors will reduce your premiums. |

Do you mean contents insurance or home insurance? Well either way it will be less as both are usually smaller and have less inside them. Plus it was a good point what the previous poster made, most flats nowadays have high-tech entry systems, some with video/tv security systems so I am sure this will lower your premium as you are less likely to be broken in to. But at the same time... I suppose the area will still affect the price, as always!!! |
