I went to see my doctor recently as the excess on my chest is really starting to become noticeable. He then referred me to a plastic surgeon. But I want to know, will my insurance cover gynecomastia surgery or will they see it as an elective surgery? I have had this for 2 years now and it is really starting to become annoying, no sunbathing, no swimming, I feel uncomfortable with my wife. Everything is connected and I don’t know how to fix it without having to fork out for expensive plastic surgery.

The Primary Care Trust can also offer you a free breast reduction but this comes on a case to case basis. You will have to see whether or not they accept your case. But with your doctors referral it could increase your chances of being accepted also. Contact them, if not then ask your private health insurer and see what they define as elective surgery.
