Apparently in the United States being morbidly obese is considered a disease and a disability. There they have lots of different insurers that allow them to get lap bands and other obesity surgeries included as part of their premium. Do we have such a thing here in the UK? Does any insurance cover lap band surgery? If so under what regulations are you allowed to get lap band surgery? How overweight do you have to be? |

I think its something ridiculously high such as 100lbs over the recommended weight. Plus you have to have exhausted all other options. You cannot just simply have this surgery and it be fine, you have to have proved that you want to lose weight and that you have tried other diet/exercise approaches before turning to surgery. I am not sure if you can get in through a private insurer but I think if you contact the PCT they will be able to tell you. I am sure they offered Gastric bypasses to some people last year so perhaps you could get it even through the NHS. |
