My current insurance is due to expire and so I am looking for another private health insurance. HBA were recommended to me by a family member but after more research I found out they actually use BUPA coverage, so wouldn’t it be easier for me to just go directly to BUPA? How does going through HBA change things? In the end I will still end up dealing with people in a BUPA call centre right?

I don’t think you can go directly through BUPA, I mean if you have a look on their website you will see that there is no “join here” section. They provide cover through HBA and therefore I wouldn’t see that it would make a difference to their service it will be exactly the same.
Also very interesting:
  • Private health insurance: HBA more expensive than BUPA coverage?
  • Australia’s largest provider of private health insurance: MBF or HBA?

What difference will it make if you join through them or BUPA? I think that it is easier to just go through HBA as they are very common in Australia and one of the big players.
