Does anyone have any tips on organising sickness insurance for self employed people? I am seriously considering starting my own business but I'm aware I need cover in case I fall ill and can't take the wheel for a while. All advice welcome! |

It's great that you're thinking about this: it can be all too easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of the new and forget the nitty gritty... You should consider three or four different options / products: private health insurance, life insurance, accident / sickness insurance and income replacement insurance. Private health insurance can be a life saver if you need a serious operation and can have it done in half the time (without the waiting lists); you'll be on the road to recovery in less time and the emotional stress of waiting will also be reduced. Life insurance is a must if you have kids, or a mortgage that your survivors would otherwise need to pay off! Accident / sickness insurance and income replacement insurance might be worth looking into: you might have to pay quite a bit depending on the level of cover you require, but it's better to be safe than sorry! |

There is also Key Person insurance that you could look in to. It is a type of business insurance, specifically used for self employed business owners, in case something happen to ensure that you will continue to receive your habitual revenue. |
