Does anyone have any tips on organising sickness insurance for self employed people? I am seriously considering starting my own business but I'm aware I need cover in case I fall ill and can't take the wheel for a while. All advice welcome!

It's great that you're thinking about this: it can be all too easy to get wrapped up in the excitement of the new and forget the nitty gritty... You should consider three or four different options / products: private health insurance, life insurance, accident / sickness insurance and income replacement insurance. Private health insurance can be a life saver if you need a serious operation and can have it done in half the time (without the waiting lists); you'll be on the road to recovery in less time and the emotional stress of waiting will also be reduced. Life insurance is a must if you have kids, or a mortgage that your survivors would otherwise need to pay off! Accident / sickness insurance and income replacement insurance might be worth looking into: you might have to pay quite a bit depending on the level of cover you require, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

There is also Key Person insurance that you could look in to. It is a type of business insurance, specifically used for self employed business owners, in case something happen to ensure that you will continue to receive your habitual revenue.
