I recently tried to buy something online using my Barclays Electron Card and it came up saying that “your bank does not authorise this transaction”. What could be the problem here? I know I have enough money in the account and the site said it accepts Electron cards so I am not sure what could be going wrong.

I would say one of two things. One: There is a problem with your address. The online systems often cannot accept a bank card payment because the address you have written online is different to that which the bank has. Sometimes it is the same address but different layout and it still causes a problem. Two: It is the first time you have used the card to pay online. If you have been a customer for a long time and never used online banking they will find it odd that you have all of a sudden tried to buy something online. Try giving them a call and checking these two things.
