Is a prepaid credit / debit card more hassle than it's worth?

I've read a lot of praise for the new prepaid credit & debit card deals, but I'm unconvinced. When should you opt for a prepaid card rather than a regular card? |

Prepaid credit cards and rechargeable / reloadable debit cards are basically a worry-free spending tool. They have been developed with people in mind who find it difficult to resist impulse buys or stick to a budget. They're also popular for teenagers when parents want to prevent spiralling credit card bills at school or university... If you have a lot of disposable income and can manage your money without too many problems it's probably not necessary for you to have a prepaid card: you can do just as well with a regular debit / credit card. What would you be using your card for? |
