My daughter applied for a current account and was told her credit score wasn't too high, although she doesn't have any personal debts and never has. We on the other hand have a poor-ish credit score thanks to one troublesome loan... Is our credit score affecting her finances? Could she be refused debit cards for bad credit when the poor score isn't hers?

Sometimes the bank will take a generic credit score into account, especially when faced with a young person who's never had credit before. This generic score may be based on the typical score for a person her age, or for a person from her area. Perhaps you're living in an area where the average credit score is a bit lower? It's surprising that her credit score even came up, considering that she wanted to open a current account and not take out a loan. I wouldn't worry about it because I'm sure that when she is investigated properly (perhaps in the future) her slate will be clean and her score higher! Don't forget too that with NO credit history, your score also isn't perfect: you haven't yet proved you're good at repaying money!
