I wanted to join Yorkshire Bank Preston and take out a Ready cash account. I wanted this account as it seems like the most basic account and I thought that they will not need to do any credit checks to allow me to open this account. Has anyone who has applied for this in the past been turned away due to bad credit?

It seems as if there is no overdraft on the Readycash account so I would have thought that they wouldn’t have to do any credit checks. Usually banks do credit checks if the applicant wants access to credit such as an overdraft or credit card, but in this case I wouldn’t see why not.
Also very interesting:

  • Does anyone know the Yorkshire building society sort code?

I heard differently. I heard that all banks and all bank accounts have routine credit checks, even savings accounts so I am not sure. I mean it makes sense that they would only do it if you were applying for credit, but maybe they are worried that you will still go overdrawn and owe them money.

It isn’t only about the whole credit usage, it is also a form of identification. They use credit checks to prove who you are, what kind of a spender you are etc and if you have applied to thousands of banks around the same time. Not good
