I only want a normal current account with a card that I can use in some shops etc. I don’t need anything fancy just a plain account so was wondering if someone could tell me if Yorkshire building society Leeds easy to open an account at? Do they do credit checks for a current account? Even if you don’t want an overdraft or any credit facilities? I don’t have much time and I don’t want to have to sit there for ages going over different forms etc. I know I will need proof of address and ID, but will they need anything else?

Have you maybe thought about opening an account online? I think it is an excellent solution if you don’t have much time. Plus that way you will get an answer fairly quickly and if you are competent with computers I am sure it won’t be a problem for you to fill in all the details online.

But then don’t you have to send all your documents away I am not sure how safe that is sending for example your passport etc. I would say just go in branch, they shouldn’t take too long to open an account for you. Or arrange a meeting time so that you know you will be seen directly and not have to wait if it is a busy day.

When it comes to the credit check it shouldn’t be a problem if you really insist on one specific account with no overdraft or credit.
