I was recently charged as a direct debit was taken out of my account which I did not authorize. As I do not have an overdraft I have been made to pay Halifax overdraft charges. They are now starting to mount up and I am not sure what to do. I have tried contacting the company but they said it is not their fault and will not pay me back. What should I do?

Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do. You will have to pay the overdraft charges as the only way a company would have gotten your bank details was if you had given them to them via a direct debit authorization form, so it is impossible that they are in the wrong. They would not legally be able to take the money out if not. So looks like you will have to pay the charges and just get over it. But just makes sure you have cancelled the DD otherwise it will, I imagine, keep coming out each month.
