I was just wondering how safe Yorkshire bank online banking is and whether or not it would be safe for me to log in to my account using a free wifi network? It is a little bit pointless me asking now seeing as I already have but I really didn’t think of it at the time. I was at the airport and had my laptop with me and thought I would just check my account to see how much I had spent, but then when my husband asked me what I was up to and I told him he went mental saying I was being stupid and not taking the necessary precautions etc, is it really that bad? I have been checking my account ever since and so far so good, but would rather be assured in some way. :-S |

The reason that this is dangerous isn’t to do with whether or not the Yorkshire Bank online banking I safe or not, it is to do with the internet connection and the fact that so many people are able ot access the same information as you. |

Definitely to be avoided in the future, hopefully you were lucky this time and you won’t have any trouble in the future, however an computer wizz could log all your actions and even if you don’t access your account or if they are not able to see the passwords you enter, they can get the information and as free wifi usually doesn’t have a firewall you will be at risk from many different hackers. Stay away. |

I didn’t realise it was this bad, so does this mean that home wifi connections are also not that safe. |

In theory they should be, but I still don’t trust them, any wireless connection can usually be intercepted, so take the necessary precautions and get a good firewall and other security packages if you want to keep your wifi. |
