Why does the system differ for online banking Barclaycard and that of Barclays? I have an account with Barclays and when I recently applied for a credit card with Barclaycard I was surprised to find that they do not use the card reader method as used by Barclays, why is this?

This is quite strange seeing as not only does Barclays own Barclaycard but Barclaycard is also, apparently, Europe’s leading card provider. You would think they would have to ensure the security of their cards, but how can they be secure when the pins-entry system is obviously better. What is the current Barclaycard system? Just password and enter?

Well obviously it is a little bit more complex as there are several steps but yeh generally it is just a password system. You have a member number, but you don’t even need that to log in if you have your bank card with you. Then there is a number code, then lastly a secret password which you type in 2 specified letters. Although just a password system I would say it is still quite safe, but it is unusual that they don’t use the card reader also.
