This may sound silly to some, but I've noticed my friends have a lot more cards than I do! How many credit & debit cards is it normal to have? Are they taking on unnecessary financial complications or aware of advantages I'm missing?

There's no magic number that's right for everyone! I have one debit card and two credit cards, but my best friend has two debit cards and at least five credit cards! Some people use different accounts for different reasons: perhaps they have one debit card for their own account and one for their joint account... Or one for their current account and one for their savings account? It's a good idea to have a credit card for emergencies and to prove you can pay off your bills reliably and boost your credit score, but there's no rule that says you need more than one or two! If you're not having any difficulties managing your money and you're happy with your banking arrangements, I wouldn't worry. Maybe they're all just store loyalty cards anyway!

It really does depend on personal choice and how good you are with managing your finances. It is true that they may be on top of the market and know which cards offer new deals and thus play offer one card at a time, but it could also be that they don’t know how to manage their finances and are in trouble. Many friends often don’t know how bad their friends are with money as it is a topic that isn’t really discussed. I think the main thing to think of is whether or not you think you are ok financially. You know what they say, if it isn’t broke don’t fix it
