Are short term car leases more economical than buying an old banger? I was going to just buy an old run-around as I am going to need a car for 6 months to 1 year. But with the way leasing prices are at the moment is it better to just get a short term lease, especially if that way I could probably get a more fuel efficient motor. Any thoughts?

True that you could probably get a more fuel efficient car but at the same time is it definite that you will only need the car for a short period, used cars can sometimes last a lot longer than you think and if you know what to look for you could get a real bargain that lasts a couple of years for a fraction of the price of leasing. I bought an old KA a couple of years back for only £700. It was a great run around, never had to be repaired or anything, tax and insurance was cheap and only ended up spending money on the tyres. Then I still got £500 when I sold it this year, costing me only about £400 for two years.  I am sure that with a short term lease you will end up paying this just for 2 months. Get someone who knows about cars to help you look for a good used car and you’ll save oodles.
Yeh but then there are the used cars that break down every five seconds, need new engines and have no clutch…….stick to the car leasing mate

Leases are never a good idea mate! Just have a look online- the net is overflowing with bad reviews from customers who have had shitty experiences with leasing a car. Just stick the used cars, most people get by just fine with a used car, u just need to know what to look for. Do u know anyone who knows about cars? Get them to look at some cars with you….. they will know what to look out for and also what cars last the longest/have cheapest spare parts/cheap to run etc. Don’t just get a car cus of the colour and you’ll be fine. 
