Why Claim Pension Credit?

Pension Credit, see Pension Credit, is not a state ‘handout’ but potentially a legal right for everyone who qualifies for the State Pension. The government recognises that it is difficult to save for retirement if you have a low income, and aims to support those pensioners who were unable to save, and reward those who did save, with extra benefits. If you are eligible for Pension Credit you may also be automatically eligible for Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit to help with covering the cost of these expenses, and/or help affording health expenditures such as glasses and dental treatment. The less money and the less savings you have, generally the more Pension Credit you will be entitled to; however, it is always worth applying for Pension Credit, as you may still be entitled to a small benefit even if you have significant savings.
