Bank & Building Society Branches

Bank and building societies have branches across the country. You should be able to find a branch of your bank or building society in every city and most towns throughout the United Kingdom. Branches of your bank or building society will be able to facilitate most, if not all current account services within regular working hours. You can withdraw and deposit cash at the counter, where your request will be handled by a customer services assistant (referred to as a 'teller'). You may be restricted by certain limits: many banks and building societies have, for example, a maximum cash withdrawal limit per day. You might, for instance, be allowed to withdraw a maximum of five hundred pounds in one day (see Balance Limits, Fees & Charges).

The teller can inform you of your current account balance and print an account statement for you. You will usually be required to provide appropriate identification, such as your driving licence, to verify that you are in fact the account holder if you wish to access account details; for more basic services such as depositing or withdrawing funds, presentation of your debit or cash card is usually sufficient.
