Basic Security Guidelines

Many banks and building societies offer a leaflet detailing basic security guidelines to prevent fraudulent payments on a card, including such basic security measures as keeping your PIN number secret; being cautious whilst using Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) or Chip and PIN facilities, so that other people cannot see your PIN number; keeping your cards with you at all times; being aware of phishing scams and taking sensible measures to avoid falling foul of them, such as deleting any suspicious e-mails from unknown senders (see Phishing and Internet Banking Security).
