Weddings Abroad
More and more couples are choosing to get married abroad, and require a wedding insurance which covers them for problems which might arise from a foreign wedding, such as lost luggage or transport delays. Many insurance providers will offer different policies for weddings abroad, or enable you to extend your existing cover to insure risks arising from a foreign wedding. Be sure to check the details of the policy carefully and ensure that you have sufficient cover. If you are concerned that aspects of your wedding day will not be insured, contact your insurance provider for advice and assistance. You may be able to pay an extra premium to get the cover you need.
Wedding insurance typically covers you only for events leading up to the day and events on the wedding day itself. It is important to purchase a supplementary travel insurance to cover aspects of your trip which are not related to your wedding. For more details see travel insurance.
Remember that other countries may offer better weather or more dramatic locations for your ceremony, but they will also have a different cultural approach to your big day. Be sure to discuss your plans with a foreign wedding planner from the resort; ask their advice and request pictures or references from other couples who were married there, if possible. Double check that they have suitable facilities to ensure the smooth running of the ceremony and reception, such as an alternative room should the reception on the beach be rained off!
