Moving House
If you are planning to move house, you should take the opportunity to shop around for a better deal on your home insurance. Often, you will be able to find a policy which better meets the needs and risks of your new property.
Moving house can be stressful, and so many home insurers will offer to transfer your existing home insurance for you. This means that you do not have to take out another policy for your new house, but can instead switch your existing policy to protect your new home. The benefit of doing this is that your insurer will often cover your contents whilst they are being transported between properties, and insure both properties whilst you are completing the move.
Because your new property's value and location are likely to be different to that of your old home, your insurance premium will also change. If your house would cost more to rebuild, your premium will almost certainly be higher. Alternatively, if your property is considered to be located in a safer area, it may be at a reduced risk of break-ins, which could reduce the cost of your home insurance.
