Comprehensive Breakdown Cover

If you find yourself in difficulty while driving, call your breakdown provider: when you take out the policy, they will give you a telephone number which connects you directly with their nationwide breakdown service. If you simply need advice, such as how to change a flat tire, the breakdown service can give you help over the phone. For more serious problems, or ones that you feel you cannot solve yourself, a recovery patrol will be sent out to meet you as soon as possible.

Comprehensive breakdown cover is often referred to as 'recovery plus' cover: it allows you to choose how you wish your journey to continue with the minimum of disruption. For this reason, the level of protection is greater than intermediate breakdown cover.

You can claim the cost of car hire for a certain period (usually 24 hours), the cost of any public transport, or your stay in a hotel, if your car requires repairs and cannot take you to your original destination. You could also arrange for delivery of your repaired vehicle to your new location.

In addition, comprehensive breakdown cover automatically provides protection if your car breaks down at home. This could be very useful, for example if your car refuses to start in the morning and you need to travel to work. The breakdown service can be called out to repair your vehicle, and if irreparable, alternative transport is provided free-of-charge.
