Vehicle Tax

Vehicle Tax is compulsory for every vehicle used or kept on a public road, unless it has been registered under a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN). You will need your valid Certificate of Motor Insurance to tax your vehicle, along with a valid Ministry of Transport Test Certificate. If you do not have a valid 'tax disc', a small, circular certificate for permanent display in your vehicle, and you try to claim on your car insurance, your insurer may to invalidate the claim, as you would be committing a driving offence.

Some vehicles are exempt from road tax, including some cars over twenty-five years old. You may also be exempt from paying road tax if you are disabled and are receiving Disability Living Allowance or War Pensioners Mobility Supplement.
