Your Car
The cost of your car insurance is significantly affected by the car you drive. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) places every car sold in large quantities in the UK into an insurance group between one and twenty. One is the lowest cost group and twenty the highest. The ABI's rating is only advisory however, and so your insurer may assign your car a different group.
Cars in the lowest groups are considered lower risk and are therefore cheaper to insure. Several factors help the ABI determine the cost of possible claims against your car insurance, and therefore determine to which group your car should be assigned. These include the cost of spare parts and repairing damage, the time your car will take to repair, the type of body shell, and the original value of the car.
Other factors such as the performance, the car's own security measures and whether the car is an import will also have an effect on the insurance group your car is assigned.
