Bursaries & Scholarships
Bursaries and scholarships differ from loans in that you will not have to pay them back. These are usually given out by universities or colleges, to students whom they wish to reward for academic reasons. For example, if a student has done particularly well in their A-level examinations, they may be eligible for a bursary or scholarship. This could be any amount from a few hundred pounds to several thousands- a real incentive to work hard in your exams!
Some UK universities also have 'Entrance Scholarships': these are awards given to students who have achieved outstanding results in the entrance examinations set by the university. However, the variety of bursaries and scholarships available differs from university to university: some will have more on offer than others. Ask your prospective University whether they have any bursaries or scholarship schemes for which you might be eligible.
