The Premier Credit Card
Most credit card providers will offer premier credit cards. These cards offer a wide range of additional benefits on top of the basic services provided by a standard credit card. There are typically more stringent requirements to meet when you apply for a premier credit card, such as a higher income threshold, a minimum age limit and an excellent credit history. In return cardholders receive a larger credit limit and often a lower interest rate. Additional benefits may include: medical and legal assistance; fraud protection alerts; free travel, wine and reward club membership; discounted travel, holiday and retail purchases, and extended warranty cover on certain purchases.
Depending on the credit card provider, you may be offered a range of premier cards, each card aimed at meeting the financial needs of different customers. For example, a 'platinum' card will offer greater benefits than a 'gold' card, but you must have a greater income to be eligible. Many providers offer gold, platinum and black cards, black being the most 'exclusive', and the most likely to have an annual fee for membership (see Credit Card Charges).
