Debt Management Companies

As with any source of credit, you may find that you are unable to manage the debt on your credit card. If you feel that you need help with your debt you can seek advice from debt management companies. These companies, also know as money advice agencies, can negotiate with your existing or potential lenders for lower interest rates, or help you with a credit card application if you have been refused in the past. The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) is a charity that provides free debt management services.

If you feel that you are unable to manage your credit card debt alone, you may wish to pay a small fee to a debt management company. They can provide professional advice and offer you strategies for clearing your debt. Many management agencies will consolidate your debt, enabling you to make one monthly payment based on how much you can afford. Proportions of this payment are then paid to your creditors, beginning with the debts that attract the most interest.

There are drawbacks to using a debt management company; although they can help to clear your credit card debt, you may find that they remove your credit card entirely and require you to pay them a percentage of your debt as a fee for their assistance. Nevertheless, if interest charges can be reduced it will be easier and faster for you to repay any outstanding debt, and the lack of a credit card will remove temptation to spend more money.
